What is the difference between restricted and unrestricted funding?

Restricted funding is given for a specific program, initiative or purpose and must be used according to those requirements. Unrestricted funding gives UWTC greater flexibility to respond to community needs, sustain critical services and invest resources where they can have the greatest impact.

What is the Community Fund?

The Community Fund is unrestricted and provides flexible resources that allow UWTC to address priority needs across Tarrant County, support proven solutions and respond as community needs change.

How are community investments determined?

UWTC uses community data, identified needs, program performance and established funding processes to guide investment decisions. Funding recommendations are subject to appropriate organizational and board oversight.

How does UWTC fund and award grants to the community?

UWTC's community grants are funded through gifts specifically intended to be reinvested in local nonprofits and community initiatives. Grant opportunities are awarded through a structured Request for Proposals (RFP) process designed to ensure funding decisions are fair, transparent and aligned with identified community needs. Applicants are reviewed against established eligibility requirements and funding criteria, and proposals are vetted before awards are approved. This process helps ensure charitable dollars designated for community investment are distributed thoughtfully, responsibly and where they can have meaningful impact.

Who oversees UWTC's finances?

UWTC's financial management is overseen by organizational leadership, the Board of Directors and appropriate board committees. Independent auditors also review UWTC's financial statements annually.

What is the difference between an impact report, an audit and Form 990?

Impact Report: Provides an overview of UWTC's impact, activities and financial performance.
Audited Financial Statements: An independent examination of UWTC's financial statements and accounting practices.
Form 990: The annual informational tax return filed with the IRS by tax-exempt organizations.
