SUPPORTING THE HEALTH AND INDEPENDENCE OF OLDER ADULTS
Staying active, improving balance and feeling confident can help older adults maintain their independence. The Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County offers programs designed to help adults age 60 and older stay active, improve mobility and reduce concerns about falls.
Whether you're looking to improve your balance, become more active or feel more confident with everyday activities, these programs provide practical tools and support.
A Matter of Balance
Concerned about falling or have you experienced a fall? A Matter of Balance is a program for adults age 60 and older designed to help participants stay active, confident and independent.
Participants learn practical strategies to overcome concerns about falls and build confidence in their ability to stay active.
What you'll learn
- Strategies to overcome concerns about falling
- Exercises to improve balance, strength and flexibility
- Ways to reduce your risk of falls
- Strategies to build confidence in daily activities
Program format
A Matter of Balance includes eight two-hour sessions in a small group setting of 8-12 older adults. The program can be completed once a week for eight weeks or twice a week for four weeks. Workshop dates vary based on workshop location availability and participant interest.

Walk With Ease
Arthritis Foundation Walk With Ease® is a year-round walking program designed for adults age 60 and older. The program helps participants safely increase physical activity, improve mobility, reduce pain and build confidence for everyday activities. Participants walk at their own pace while learning strategies to stay motivated and active.
What you'll learn
Through Walk With Ease, participants learn how to:
- Walk safely and comfortably
- Increase strength, balance and flexibility
- Reduce pain and stiffness
- Improve mobility and walking pace
- Build confidence in physical activity
- Create a personalized walking plan
- Stay motivated and overcome barriers to exercise
Program format
Walk With Ease is a structured six-week program. Participants are encouraged to walk at least three times per week and can walk at their own pace. The program is available as a group walking program or as a self-directed program with support from a trained leader.
