FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan 14, 2026) – United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) is kicking off the 2026 tax season by hosting a Community Resource Fair designed to help local residents and families access free tax preparation services and essential community supports, all in one place. The event takes place Saturday, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southside Community Center (959 E Rosedale St., Fort Worth, TX 76104).
The fair will connect attendees with IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers who can prepare taxes at no cost or help them schedule appointments at VITA sites across Tarrant County. In addition to tax support, the event will offer family-friendly activities, free flu shots, and information about community resources that support financial security and overall well-being
“This is the first year we’re bringing this specific Community Resource Fair to life that focuses on tax preparations, and our goal is to make a direct, meaningful impact on hundreds of Tarrant County families,” said Adam D. Powell, President and CEO of UWTC. “Tax season can be stressful, especially for working families, and we want to meet people where they are by offering trusted tax help alongside resources that can strengthen financial stability well beyond a single refund.”
UWTC’s VITA program provides free, quality tax preparation for individuals and families with household incomes of $69,000 or less, helping ensure they receive the refunds and credits they’re eligible for, including benefits like the Earned Income Tax Credit. UWTC will open 17 VITA sites across Tarrant County this tax season..
Since 2010, 101,288 tax returns have been filed using UWTC VITA volunteers, resulting in a total of more than $175 million in refunds. VITA clients receive an average refund of $1,700, in addition to saving approximately $300 in tax preparation fees.
