Employee Spotlight: Shanin Marshall

Wednesday, June 25, 2025

“Motivate one person, complete one project, and solve at least one problem.”

That's how Shanin Marshall, United Way of Tarrant County’s senior grant accountant, starts each day. In his role, Shanin is a combination accountant, encourager and collaborator to best assist his team.

“I believe we’re all given unique gifts, and accounting happens to be mine,” he said. “I wanted to walk in my calling to serve others and use my gift in a way that transforms lives.”

As a self-proclaimed spreadsheet-wielding motivator of the Finance team, Shanin handles journal entries, prepares grant budgets, creates audit schedules and ensures UWTC’s financials are clean and compliant. Since joining UWTC almost a year ago, some of his most memorable moments have been taking new hires under his wing and helping them understand their roles, bringing his passion for teaching into the workplace.

“What’s most rewarding is knowing that every number I touch supports real-life impact,” said Shanin. “I may be behind the scenes, but the work we do helps real people, families and communities.”

Shanin also has a deep connection with UWTC’s Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County, explaining that it reminds him of the importance of honoring those who have paved the way before us.

“The program ensures older adults get the support and maintain the dignity they deserve – something that aligns perfectly with my values of service, humility and impact,” he said.

Shanin recently added to his list of achievements by being awarded a $20,000 scholarship to pursue his Professional MBA at Texas Christian University this fall. UWTC and TCU Neeley joined forces and awarded scholarships to eligible participants wanting to earn their MBA. When Shanin found out about the award, he was deeply honored and humbled, stating, “It’s another step toward becoming the leader God called me to be.”

When Shanin is out of the office, he is an avid gym enthusiast and devoted husband and dad to seven children, who worships with his family and serves UWTC’s purpose in and out of the workplace.
