“Lady” LyTisa Greene, one of 120 certified doulas to complete our community doula training program in 2024, provides essential support to mothers throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

“It melts my heart that I am able to be there for them, to advocate and assist them with a healthy delivery and a healthy baby,” said Lady, who now serves as one of five staff doulas for UWTC and our partner, Child Poverty Action Lab.

The Community Doula Program was born out of the need to combat the historically high maternal mortality rate in Tarrant County, one of the highest in the U.S. These doulas provide critical services educating expectant mothers, coaching them through labor and providing a helping hand at home postpartum.

In 2025, UWTC continues to expand our maternal health initiative with TeamBirth, a process developed by Ariadne Labs that closes communication gaps between expectant mothers and their hospital-based care teams.
