New initiative will provide coaching, collaboration and seed funding for nonprofits and small businesses addressing Tarrant County’s most pressing challenges
FORT WORTH, Texas (May 18, 2026) – United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) announced the launch of Local Lift, a new social innovation program designed to help nonprofits, entrepreneurs and small businesses turn bold ideas into real solutions that strengthen communities across Tarrant County.
Unveiled during UWTC’s 6th annual Women United Investing in Impact Luncheon, Local Lift is a cohort-based social entrepreneurship experience focused on advancing innovative, community-centered solutions that improve how organizations serve local residents. The program will provide participants with business coaching, mentorship opportunities, collaborative learning and seed funding support through an eight-week experience ending in a live pitch competition awarding funding to help bring innovative community solutions to life. Applications for Local Lift open June 1, 2026, and close July 10, 2026.
Programs submitted for consideration must serve residents of Tarrant County and focus on one of UWTC’s four impact areas: financial security, community health, community resiliency or youth opportunity and education.
“Local Lift is about creating space for the next generation of ideas that can strengthen Tarrant County,” said Adam D. Powell, President and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County. “We know the challenges facing our community are evolving, and we believe some of the most impactful solutions are already here. This program is designed to identify those ideas, develop them through coaching and mentorship and invest in them so they can grow into sustainable, community-changing solutions.”
The initiative is a direct extension of the recently launched United Way Institute, UWTC’s centralized hub for data-driven evaluation, innovation, nonprofit support, program design and technology assistance. Through the Institute, UWTC has expanded its role as a convener and resource for organizations seeking practical tools, research support and collaborative problem-solving opportunities.
Selected participants will later pitch their ideas before a live audience and panel of judges for the opportunity to receive funding that will help move their solutions from concept to implementation.
