FORT WORTH (Oct. 5, 2022) – United Way of Tarrant County today announced Hadley Woerner as chair of its board of directors. He succeeds Melinda M. Johnston, who now serves as the board’s immediate past chair. In addition, seven individuals were named as new board members.

The board of directors at United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) serves to support the organization through mission-based leadership. This year’s board brings together individuals with broad professional diversity from across Tarrant County dedicated to strengthening United Way and its impact in the community. Their expertise spans public education, civil infrastructure, financial services, healthcare and business.

“As we celebrate our centennial year, we are excited to welcome our new board members who are passionate about serving our community and dedicated to providing outstanding leadership and guidance to United Way,” said Leah M. King, president and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County. “I look forward to working closely with Hadley and the entire board as we navigate and address new and ongoing issues affecting Tarrant County residents.”

Woerner, Tarrant Region Frost Bank president, has more than 39 years of banking experience working with entrepreneurs, corporations, nonprofits and governmental organizations across the state. During the 2019-2020 fiscal year, Woerner served as the UWTC annual campaign chair, identifying new companies to participate in the campaign and building relationships with companies already involved in an effort to increase financial support of the United Way’s work in the community. He also serves on the board of directors for Cook Children’s Health Foundation, North Texas LEAD, Davey O’Brien Foundation, Tarleton State University Foundation and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

The following new board members were elected to their first year of service:

Kervin Campbell, PE, North Texas Regional Executive Principal, Dunaway

With a significant portfolio of public infrastructure projects, including roadways, water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain improvements, Campbell has been recognized in the industry for his outstanding contributions to public safety and welfare and for advancing the profession of engineering. Under Campbell’s leadership, Dunaway’s municipal client base has increased and advanced from offering traditional civil infrastructure services to adding innovative design solutions such as roundabouts and 2D water modeling design. Campbell currently serves as board president of the Tarrant County Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies and is a past president of the Fort Worth Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers-Texas.

Cory Dowell, Founding Partner, Managing Director and Private Wealth Advisor, Baumgarten Dowell Jones Wealth Management at UBS Financial Services Inc.

Dowell has 24 years of experience in the investment industry, which includes serving as a senior institutional investment consultant to Fortune 100 companies and advising some of the world’s largest corporations on their equity compensation plans, retirement plans and investment strategies. He also served as a regional head of an advanced planning group for a major Wall Street investment firm where he was involved in hundreds of business transactions and complex estate planning situations and gained experience with sophisticated tax planning strategies.

Marcia Etie, Manager of Special Projects, Mosaic Strategy Partners

Etie began her career in customer service for a telecommunications company, honing her craft at an advertising agency. After years in advertising, Etie was responsible for marketing for a Tarrant County special events facility and the City of North Richland Hills. Once Etie was satisfied that she had built a robust skillset, she served for many years as the outreach coordinator for Congresswoman Kay Granger. Upon retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives, Etie continued her public service with Tarrant County and served as a key consultant with a local chamber of commerce. She is proud to serve as the Deputy Area Coordinator and Blue & Gold Admissions officer with the United States Naval Academy.

Mia Hall, Ed.D., Executive Director of Equity and Excellence, Fort Worth Independent School District

From substitute teacher to executive leadership, Hall climbed the ranks within Fort Worth ISD and has served in all facets of education. She distinguished her leadership as the inaugural principal of Fort Worth ISD’s Young Women’s Leadership Academy earning the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2016 from the U.S. Department of Education. With more than 20 years of experience in public education, Hall shares her expertise and passion with her community as a member of The Junior League of Fort Worth, Inc. and Girls Inc. of Tarrant County and serves as board trustee on the Crowley ISD School Board. Hall is the proud owner of Mia Hall Real Estate, co-owner of Innovative Air, and serves as zoning commissioner for District 6 for the City of Fort Worth.

Grant Helmer, Senior Vice President in Dealer Services, GM Financial

With a career encompassing more than 25 years at GM Financial, Helmer currently manages and oversees all U.S. funding and disbursement activity for the company, including retail, lease and commercial originations. His additional responsibilities include funding administration, compliance, lien perfection, quality assurance, records management, payoff processing and collateral management. Helmer is a Texas native and attended Texas Tech University, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance. He is a past board member for Junior Achievement, a current leader with Bible Study Fellowship and enjoys officiating high school football through the Texas Association of Sports Officials.

Courtney Lewis, Executive Vice President, Cadence Bank

Lewis joined Cadence Bank as the Fort Worth market executive after the merger with BancorpSouth. She has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and was responsible for leading middle market banking activities in North Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Before Lewis joined Bankcorp South in 2020, she spent two and a half years with Mutual of Omaha Bank/CIT. Prior to that, she worked for Plains Capital Bank, Origin, BBVA Compass and JP Morgan Chase. Lewis is involved in several community organizations such as Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth (past president) and Rotary Club of Fort Worth (president).

Kecia Mays, Arlington ISD Trustee

Mays has served as an Arlington ISD Trustee in Place 7 since 2014. She is a retired state tax audit supervisor with proven success in leading audit team members in high-volume audit settings. Mays is knowledgeable about state governmental regulations, managing audit files, and producing professional correspondence for taxpayers’ diverse needs. She currently serves on the board of directors for Dental Health Arlington, Travel and Sports Legacy Foundation, Arlington Life Shelter and Water From the Rock.
