FORT WORTH – In the wake of the recent fire that severely damaged The Cooper Apartments in the Near Southside, the Fort Worth community is stepping up to support the more than 800 residents displaced. Local leaders are encouraging residents and businesses to contribute to a fund set up by United Way of Tarrant County. The fund will directly and equitably support those who lost their homes and belongings in this tragedy.

“At United Way of Tarrant County, we are committed to mobilizing our community in times of need,” said Adam D. Powell, President and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County. “The fire at The Cooper deeply impacted hundreds of our neighbors in Near Southside, and our relief fund is one way we can respond quickly and meaningfully when crisis strikes. We stand with the community and will continue working with local partners to ensure displaced residents receive the support they need to recover.”

Councilwoman Beck added, “In true Fort Worth fashion, when your neighbors are in need – you answer. Before our firefighters could extinguish the blaze, the community came together to offer support.”

Near Southside Inc. President Mike Brennan echoed the sentiment: “We’re seeing our amazing Near Southside community come together to support our Cooper neighbors after the fire. The best assistance you can provide at this point is financial. Residents are navigating a tough path and dealing with unexpected losses. We encourage anyone who is able to please contribute to the Cooper Fire Relief Fund set up by United Way of Tarrant County. Your donations will be distributed directly and equitably among The Cooper’s displaced residents. Let’s show them what Near Southside spirit is all about, and let’s work together to keep them all in the neighborhood!”
