Statement Regarding U.S. Government Shutdown

Wednesday, October 1, 2025

October 1, 2025 - The government shutdown will not affect United Way of Tarrant County’s programs in the short-term. Of our direct-service programs, only two rely primarily on federal funding: the Area Agency on Aging, serving our older population, and our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free tax preparation. We are monitoring the situation in Washington D.C. closely to determine if there will be any impacts in the future.

We will continue to serve our most vulnerable populations as we do today. We have three referral services available to those in the community who may need assistance at any time, including those impacted by the government shutdown.

211 is a free, confidential referral and information service connecting people to a specialist who can help find local health and human services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents can call 211 or visit 211texas.org for assistance.

The Texas Veterans Network provides support to veterans and their families through our Mission United intake specialists. They can be reached at 844-489-8387.

Our Aging and Disability Resource Center is ready to assist adults 60+, those with disabilities, and their caregivers. Visit TarrantCountyADRC.org or call 855-937-2372 to be connected with an ADRC specialist.
