At UWTC, Shon Dorsey helps lead impact-driven teams by asking one bold question: How do we show up for our community when the answers aren’t always clear?

As EVP and Chief Impact Officer, he plays a key role in connecting organizations, investing in community-led solutions and ensuring the voices of those most impacted are part of the conversation. He believes strongly that the best ideas already live within the community.

“The needs don’t slow down,” Shon says. “So we have to be ready to show up.”

That commitment began early. As a child, Shon attended an after-school summer program that played a big role in shaping who he is today. It was only later that he realized some of the kids he spent those days with were going home without consistent food, utilities or stability.

“That understanding has always stuck with me,” he shares. “It’s why this work matters.”

Shon began his career as a graduate student intern with United Way of Greater Houston, laying the foundation for nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership at both the local and national levels. When the opportunity to join UWTC arose last year, it felt like the right moment to bring that experience back to a community he deeply cares about.

Outside of work, Shon describes himself as a homebody who enjoys live music, great movies and quiet time to recharge. That balance helps keep him grounded in work that is deeply personal and purpose-driven.
