Employee Spotlight: Shelia Gaines

We want to shine a light on one of our dedicated Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program team members: Shelia Gaines.

Shelia brings heart, focus and a deep commitment to service to her work.

She joined the team two years ago as a VITA site coordinator. Today, as program coordinator, she supports the VITA staff who serve thousands of families across Tarrant County through free, IRS-certified tax preparation services, making sure her team feels prepared, confident and ready to show up for the community.

Shelia is not one to shy away from a challenge. When taxes once felt intimidating, she signed up for a free IRS tax preparation course and leaned in. What started as a way to overcome a fear quickly turned into a passion and a career path rooted in helping others navigate complex systems with clarity and confidence.

She thrives on problem-solving, whether she is assisting VITA clients or supporting her peers. She finds purpose in untangling obstacles and helping others move forward.

That same drive carries into her life outside the office. Shelia is competitive, active and committed to health and fitness. Whether working out, playing basketball with her family or motivating others to stay active, she brings the same discipline and positive energy to her home life.
