At UWTC, we believe in fighting for those who fought for us. This Veterans and Military Families Month, we are shining a light on the heart of our Mission United program, the people who walk alongside veterans and their families every day to help them find stability, connection and hope.

For Kara Woodruff, intake specialist for Mission United, that mission is deeply personal. She is married to a retired Army veteran and understands how much it means for veterans to have someone who truly understands what they are going through.

“Many veterans face challenges when transitioning back to civilian life,” Kara shared. “Being able to assist them in finding the resources they need is incredibly fulfilling.”

In her role, Kara serves as the first point of contact for veterans seeking support. She listens with empathy, recognizing that behind every request is a story of service, sacrifice and resilience. Through the Texas Veterans Network, an innovative technology that connects veterans and their families to local services, Kara provides comprehensive support with VA benefits claims, healthcare, financial assistance, employment and other essential resources.

Since joining the Mission United team three years ago, Kara has connected countless veterans to life-changing assistance. One story stands out. She worked with a veteran who walked miles to and from work each day because he did not have transportation. When she learned about a veteran organization that was donating vehicles, Kara nominated him, and he was selected.

“Witnessing the life-changing impact this had on him was truly incredible and deeply rewarding,” Kara said.

Outside of her work, Kara enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with her granddaughter, watching television and connecting with friends and family.

Through her compassion and dedication, Kara embodies the spirit of Mission United and ensures that those who served our country have the support, dignity and opportunities they deserve.
