Adult illiteracy is one of Tarrant County’s
toughest problems. More than one-fifth of Tarrant
County adults lack the ability to pass basic literacy
tests. In addition, there is little coordination among
service providers. In 2006, United Way of Tarrant County
formed a coalition of literacy experts, community
leaders and elected officials to examine literacy issues
and explore solutions.
