United Way-Northeast has spearheaded the creation of HEB
Transit, a new transportation service for low-income
residents of Hurst, Euless and Bedford. In its first
three months, HEB Transit provided more than 150 trips
for people who depend on the service to get to work, job
training or interviews, or to |

human service agencies.
Community leaders rank the lack of transportation as the
most serious problem in Northeast Tarrant County,
Arlington and the county overall.
HEB
Transit serves Hurst,
Euless and Bedford clients of
Catholic Charities, Christian Connection, Mission
Central, NEED Center East, St. John the
Apostle Catholic Church and the Workforce
Solutions Mid-Cities
Center. People receive free passes that are valid for a month.
HEB Transit operates Monday through Friday. People call at least 48 hours in advance to

Hurst,
Euless and Bedford and to
the Hurst/Bell and CentrePort/DFW Airport stations of the Trinity Railway
Express.
The
August 1 start of HEB Transit was preceded by about 19
months of research, discussion and planning led by
United Way-Northeast in partnership with many other
organizations. The North Central Texas Council of
Governments administers the transportation service and
helped secure grant money that was matched by funding
from United Way and other human service and faith-based
organizations.
