PREVENTING CHILDHOOD OBESITY
WITH "LITTLE BITES, BIG STEPS"

Tarrant County United Way is taking the fight against childhood obesity to selected preschools in southeast Fort Worth and east Arlington. It’s estimated that the number of overweight children ages 2 to 5 has doubled nationally in the last three decades.

Using “Little Bites, Big Steps,” a creative curriculum developed by KERA, United Way will show preschoolers, parents and child care providers how to incorporate nutrition and exercise into daily life.

Children will learn about fruits and vegetables while parents learn how to choose healthy drinks and snacks. Child development center cooks will discover how to prepare healthy new dishes or replace ingredients in their current recipes with healthier substitutes.

A $26,100 grant from The Dannon Company, Inc. is helping to underwrite program costs.

  exercise education.
