The 2-1-1 Texas information and referral service
operated by Tarrant County United Way logged a record
111,440 calls in 2006. That figure represents a 42
percent in crease
over the previous year.
Local 2-1-1 information and
referral specialists receive calls mainly from an
eight-county North Texas area. After their needs are
assessed, callers are referred to the appropriate
non-emergency health and human services. The most common
needs are related to utility and rent assistance, food,
housing and health care.
2-1-1 serves the public 24
hours a day. Tarrant County United Way operates one of
25 Area Information Centers that partner with the Texas
Health and Human Services Commission to make up the
statewide 2-1-1 Texas network. |
