United Way’s
2-1-1 Texas
information and referral service has provided
information to callers seeking assistance with flood
clean-up, food and restoration of electricity. Two
bilingual 2-1-1 specialists have helped the American Red
Cross communicate with flood victims during on-site
damage assessments in affected neighborhoods.
As part
of VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster),
2-1-1 also is helping to coordinate services to meet
longer-term needs that will remain after the Red Cross
and other first responders have addressed immediate
needs.
2-1-1
Texas was among those honored with the Good Neighbor
Award at the June 22 annual meeting and volunteer
recognition dinner of the American Red Cross Chisholm
Trail Chapter. The award is presented to individuals and
organizations outside the Red Cross for making “a
significant contribution to the local, national or
international community in support of the Red Cross.”
