Special Focus:
Senior Isolation
The number of older adults is growing in
Tarrant
County. One in four workers faces the challenge of caring
for someone 65 or older.
United Way makes an impact in the community
by enabling older adults to remain active and independent.
It and other local
organizations are working to strengthen the network of care
for seniors and inform families about how to help their aging
parents and neighbors.
United
Way-funded support services for seniors include transportation
to medical appointments, nutritious meals at senior centers,
and housekeeping and other in-home assistance. United Way’s
2-1-1
information and referral service annually connects thousands
of callers with information about health, financial and
in-home services for older adults.
The
Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County
is part of
United Way.
Through the Area Agency on Aging, the community receives more
than $3.8 million annually in state and federal funds for
older adult services.
Area Agency on Aging staff, along with trained volunteers,
answer seniors’ questions about Medicare, living wills, power
of attorney, social security and other issues.
United Way and the Area Agency
on Aging have
helped establish an Aging and Disability Resource Center in
Fort Worth
(1-888-730-2372).
Better lives for seniors: that’s what
matters.
