A "post-legislative update" event held August 13 featured highlights of the 81st session of the Texas Legislature, United Way's 2009 community assessment and the 2009 Texas KIDS COUNT data book.
The event was co-sponsored by the United Way of Tarrant County Public Policy Committee, United Way Young Leaders Society and the Center for Public Policy Priorities.
Featured speakers were Pat Cheong, assistant vice president, United Way of Tarrant County; Dr. Frances Deviney, Texas KIDS COUNT director, Center for Public Policy Priorities; and Jason Sabo, senior vice president of public policy, United Ways of Texas.
By commissioning a community assessment about every 5 years, Tarrant County United Way determines which local issues are most urgent and provide the greatest opportunity for United Way and its partners to make a significant impact.
KIDS COUNT is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
