Local Letter Carriers Collect More Than 100 Tons of Donated Food

During the National Association of Letter Carriers' National Food Drive May 9, Fort Worth NALC Branch 226 collected more than 100 tons of food. Letter carriers collected the 208,000 pounds of non-perishable donations from homes as they delivered mail along their routes. The items were delivered to the Tarrant Area Food Bank for distribution to local food pantries and shelters for people in need.

United Way is an annual co-sponsor of "Stamp Out Hunger," which is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. It is held each year in more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. This was the 17th year for the event. The National Association of Letter Carriers has 300,000 members.
