The 2009 "Coping with Unemployment Resource Guide" compiled by United Way and 2-1-1 is designed to help people in Tarrant and surrounding counties.

 

The 15-page guide covers employment resources, family finance and medical care, among other topics. It can be downloaded here, and a limited supply in printed form is also available by calling United Way at 817-258-8000.

 

For people who have lost jobs or are otherwise struggling to make ends meet, United Way's 2-1-1 Texas information and referral service is a welcome link to available services. Families on the edge often do not know where to turn. When they dial 2-1-1, experienced professionals help them get immediate relief and services such as tax credits and subsidized day care that will make their money go further.

 

2-1-1 information specialists also go to job fairs and meetings hosted by companies experiencing large layoffs.
